B Corporation Certification

Certified B Corporations are companies who meet high standards of verified social and environmental performance, transparency and accountability.

Certifying as a B Corporation goes beyond product or service-level certification.

B Corp Certification is the only certification that measures a company’s entire social and environmental performance. The B Impact Assessment evaluates how your company’s operations and business model impact your workers, community, environment, and customers. From your supply chain and input materials to your charitable giving and employee benefits, B Corp Certification proves your business is meeting high environmental and social standards.

Positive impact is supported by transparency and accountability requirements. B Corp Certification doesn’t just prove where your company excels now—it commits you to consider stakeholder impact for the long term by building it into your company’s legal structure.

Evolving B Corp Standards

B Lab’s standards are at the heart of the B Corp movement. They define the social, environmental, and governance best practices for businesses that drive our vision of an inclusive, equitable, and regenerative global economy that benefits all people and the planet.

In December 2020, B Lab announced a review of the standards for the B Corp Certification. The aim was to understand whether more specific and mandatory performance requirements on key topics could ensure that B Corp Certification continues to effectively differentiate leading businesses and help all companies improve their impact.

The new standards will evolve what it means to be a B Corp by:

  • Focusing on the most important social and environmental issues facing people and the planet

  • Giving organizations clarity to focus on what matters and galvanize the most impactful actions

  • Aligning with existing standards and emerging regulations making B Corp more relevant than ever before

  • Ensuring it will be clearer than ever as to what it takes and means to be a B Corp leader

Following last year's consultation with stakeholders on the first draft of the new standards for B Corp Certification we can share our Preliminary Consultation Summary Report, which collates and summarizes this feedback, and identifies ways to address it in the next draft.

Read the full report

Input received during the second consultation that occurred from January to March 2024 will be considered for inclusion in the next version of the standards and will be shared with B Lab’s Standards Advisory Council and Board of Directors - independent bodies ensuring impartiality and credibility.

No company will certify or recertify on the new standards for B Corp Certification before 2025. Due to the iterative nature of this work, and the amount and type of feedback received during this consultation, a finalization timeline is hard to estimate. B Lab will provide ongoing updates regarding specific, phased timelines for implementation of the standard.

Fees related to the B Corp Certification

*Fees are displayed in Euros as our invoices are sent from our European HQ in Amsterdam.

Submission fees
Any company submitting its BIA for a first certification will be subject to a non-refundable submission fee. This fee helps focus the review process on companies that are committed to achieving the B Corp certification.

Certification fees

The Certification Fees are due annually for a period of three years (B Corp Certification validity period) upon obtaining the B Corp Certification, and are based on the company’s Annual Revenue.

Verification Fees

Effective on April 1st, 2024, B Lab Europe introduced a verification fee for all new companies submitting their B Impact Assessment for review.

Supporting a growing global movement

Over the past years we’ve been experiencing exponential interest in B Corp Certification and community growth, tripling the size of the European B Corp community since 2021 who work together to create a more inclusive, equitable and regenerative economy.

To continue to support this growing movement, maintain the rigor of B Corp Certification and continuously improve our standards and processes, B Lab Europe needs to update our fees to ensure we are equipped to support the companies who are truly committed to certifying as B Corp.

The fees for B Corp Certification are what allows B Lab as a non-profit to work towards driving systemic change, funding community engagement and advocacy efforts, along with ensuring B Corps continue to represent leadership in business today and in the future by evolving our standards.

The verification fee is structured based on company revenue and will be paid in two instalments, incorporating the existing submission fee as the first instalment.
